Police warn of phone scam

A phone scam in eastern Kentucky has state police warning people to be careful.

Kentucky State Police say the scam involves a man calling from a telephone number (876) 486-1801.

The caller says he is a representative from Publishers Clearing House or other well known sweepstakes.

The caller convinces the victim to do a money transfer in return for the money transfer the caller promises money and gifts, which police say are never received.

State police say they have found the company that owns the number is based in Jamaica.

They say to never give your bank account number out over the telephone to anyone that you do not know.
