PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials with the CDC say drowning kills more one to four year olds each year than any other cause, and with area pools opening up for the summer, that is a scary statistic for parents. Here are some pool safety tips to get your family through the summer.
With warm weather and kids out of school, many are heading to their local pool to cool off.
And that has lifeguards stressing the essentials of swimming safety.
Seth Kiser works for the Virgie Public Pool in Pike County...he says there's one rule no family should ignore.
"The best thing you can do is if you really want your child to be prepared, invest in some swimming lessons," said kiser.
He also stresses parents to be vigilant.
"I would recommend always keeping an eye on your children, even if there are lifeguards," said kiser.
And they say that may be the best advice of all.
