The transportation cabinet held a public meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the possible expansion of the I-64/Mountain Parkway interchange in Clark County.

Most drivers who travel up and down I-64 know that getting on and off the Mountain Parkway can be a headache, especially since the only way to get onto the parkway is from I-64 east.

If you miss the exit you have a thirteen mile detour-- which requires you to get off the freeway then get back on the interstate only to drive down the road four miles and do it again.

If you're coming from I-64 west there is no exit at all. You have to drive to the Winchester exit then get back on the highway going eastbound.

This evening, community members got to look at the three proposed plans that would make this interchange omni-directional. "I think it is good for expansion," explains long time Winchester resident Teresa Fraley. "I think its an excellent idea to put an off ramp heading west."

"This is something that has been in the plans for quite sometime," explains Transportation Cabinet Spokeswoman Natasha Lacy. "We recently got the green light to move forward with the design plans so we're hearing sharing them with the public. We want to hear what they think and get their feedback before we make a decision."

This expansion that would also benefit those that live off the Mountain Parkway. Right now, when you want to get off the Parkway you have only one option and that is to go westbound.

The transportation cabinet says the project is only funded through the design phase. They hope to receive more money by spring to push
forward with expanding the interchange.
