After nearly 43 years of business, a locally-owned restaurant in Prestonsburg, Kentucky has closed its doors.
Folks in eastern Kentucky say Jerry's Restaurant was an icon.
"It's just part of Prestonsburg," long-time customer Anthony Gunnell said. "It's always been here, thought it always would be."
"It's just an institution in this town," Bill Tussey told our sister station on Sunday, the restaurant's last day.
Nobody knows Jerry's better than Linda Fields. She's been a waitress there for 39 years. She's not kidding when she calls customers and coworkers her family.
"We have the same people who come in daily, we know their names," Fields said. "They're like family. We don't call them customers we call them family."
Fields said she hopes someone buys the restaurant and re-opens it.
