SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - A young girl battling cancer is getting some help from a total stranger, another young girl from a different town.
Nearly a year ago, Candace Keith of Corbin was diagnosed with Leukemia. The nine-year-old spent the following months receiving treatment in Lexington and Cincinnati.
Candace's grandfather works in Somerset, with Mandy Withers. Withers heard about Candace's struggle, and her daughter, Peyton took an interest.
"We've been praying for her for weeks. Peyton just decided she wanted to do something to help, so that's what started our idea," said Mandy Withers.
Last weekend, the family organized a yard sale, lead by the eight-year-old Peyton. They sold crafts and other donated items to raise more than $2,800.
"I just figured I wanted to do something to help her and her family," Peyton said.
"She's not only supporting us, she's bringing awareness to childhood cancer," explained Crystal Keith, Candace's mother.
The money will help cover travel and other expenses that come up for Candace's family.
Candace's cancer is in remission.
A blood drive in Candace's name is scheduled for July 26. It'll at the Calvary Baptist Church in Corbin.
