It was supposed to be an outdoor debut. But the rain delayed the start of "Honk!" and eventually forced everyone inside to the Wilkinson-Stumbo convention center.
As the old saying goes, "The show must go on."
"Honk!" is the musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's time-tested story of the Ugly Duckling...but there's nothing old-fashioned about this tale.
"It's so buoyant, there's a lot of life to it," said Hannah Dowdy, who plays Ida. "The costumes are really fun and bright, so kids will really like it."
Matthew Helton, who plays the lead of Ugly, said:
"In the show, Ugly develops from a hatchling coming out of his egg all the way through to being a teenager and you see that transformation with him. He goes through all those different phases. We all go though that and we see how being different can affect someone's personality and affect the other people around them."
Friday's showing kicked off a four-week run at the Jenny Wiley Theater in Prestonsburg. The musical has actually been around around for nearly 20 years, making its debut in England back in 1993.
