This week is known to some as Random Acts of Kindness Week. Its designed to encourage people to do something nice for others.
The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation got its start more than a decade ago. Ever since then they have promoted a very simple philosophy of kindness and generosity in hopes of making the world a better place.
The foundation's website says its mission is simple: to inspire people to practice kindness and to pass it on to others. One way they encourage people to do this is through Random Acts of Kindness Week during the second week in February.
Members of the organization encourage everyone to get involved because even a small gesture can make a big impact on someone's day.
"We're just in a very busy hectic world that we live in today, and it's just hard I think sometimes to think beyond your circumstances and what's going on in your life," Debby Bailey said.
Arts and crafts chain store Michael's joined in by giving away more than $100,000 in gift cards Friday.
This year's Random Acts of Kindness Week ends February 20.
