In the 82nd district in southern Kentucky, Regina Bunch easily defeated Larry Goins in the republican primary.
Last year, Bunch won a special election to fill her husband's seat.
Dewayne Bunch had to resign when he was badly injured while trying to break up a fight at Whitley County High School where he taught.
Regina says Dewayne is still in the process of recovering.
"Dewayne is still struggling quite a bit medically. He has a lot of just little things that his doctors are working on right now to help him to strengthen and build muscle mass to where he can get to rehab and hopefully back home with us," said Regina Bunch.
Regina says she took over her husband's position to continue his reputation and what he strived for as state representative.
"When he decided to run, he had a vision of making a difference. He has a servant's heart, and I just felt like this was something that I could do for him. It's been just a terrible situation and a tragedy to our family, but if I stay focused on what he had in mind and what he believed and what he wanted to accomplish for our area, then it helps me as well as the people of the 82nd district," said Regina Bunch.
As state representative, Regina says she plans to focus on education, agriculture, the drug problem, and being better advocates for children in the area.
The Bunch family asks for their supporters to continue praying for Dewayne as he recovers.
