10 years ago this weekend, WYMT and Eastern Kentucky lost a special man.
At the time of his death on June 30th, 2002 following a car accident, Tony Turner was WYMT's station manager, news director and 6:00 anchor.
He was only 40 years old when he died.
From the late 1980's until June, 2002, he was probably the most familiar face in the mountains.
From Issues and Answers and election nights... to special events that took him across the country... Tony Turner did it all at WYMT.
There are many qualities that those of us who knew Tony personally still miss everyday.
But Tony was not only our boss. He was a son, brother, husband and father to Courtney and Cameron, who were just kids in 2002.
We interviewed Courtney a few months after she lost her dad.
"I just miss everything about my dad because he was a good person and a good dad to me and Cam," said Courtney in 2002.
10 years later... Courtney and Cam... who both look so much like Tony... have grown up.
Courtney just graduated from high school and will study broadcasting at Eastern Kentucky University in the fall.
She recently received a scholarship from WYMT named in Tony's honor.
"Ever since i was little, this is what i've wanted to do and i've never steered away from it. This is just what i've wanted to do my entire life and now that i'm actually doing it, it's really a surreal feeling." said Courtney earlier this year.
Courtney talked about one lesson she and many of us learned from her father.
"Be personable... you have to be able to talk to somebody, even if they're not your favorite person, you still have to be nice... kill them with kindness!" said Courtney.
