PERRY CO., Ky. (WYMT) - Jimmy Rose was not on the national stage performing for America's Got Talent on Monday.
Instead he attended an open house for Congressman Hal Rogers in Perry County.
The event celebrated the opening of the new congressional office in Hazard.
Rogers shared ways he believes the new location benefits our communities and better serves constituents.
Rogers said moving his congressional office from the downtown location into a building on the highway 15 bypass means convenience.
"These major thoroughfares allow us to get throughout the region," said Rogers.
"It's an accommodation to our constituents. People that need help can come here, walk in and we'll try to help them," said Rogers.
He also highlighted the change of scenery.
"The spectacular views of downtown Hazard is right here," said Rogers. "The television station is across the street that covers my whole district and the highway system that Hazard has that takes us to almost every place."
This ceremony also gave the congressman the opportunity to praise rising country music singer Jimmy Rose.
Rose said this experience is something he never expected.
"I don't come from a wealthy background," said Rose. "I'm somebody simply with an opportunity and I'm blessed to have it and hopefully I can be an inspiration to those kids to chase their dreams."
Congressman Rogers said Rose represents Eastern Kentucky well.
"He has so captured the imagination of the American public and he's brought more attention to coal issues than anything else I can remember."
Rose is now a semifinalist on America's Got Talent.
His next performance is on September 3rd.
