FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - House Democrats say Gov. Steve Beshear told them he will give $1 million in next year's legislative races, according to a published report.
Lawmakers who attended a luncheon last week with Beshear told the Lexington Herald-Leader that the governor said he would use the money to help Democratic candidates running for seats in the House and Senate (http://bit.ly/v3QJe4 ).
All of Kentucky's House seats are up for election next year, as well as half of the state's 38 Senate seats.
Beshear spokeswoman Kerri Richardson declined to comment on the pledge, but said excess funds from the campaign would go to the Democratic Party as law allows.
The newspaper reports Beshear's campaign for governor reported having $157,245 on hand last week and the Democratic Party had $662,354 on hand.
