Months after Rep. Dewayne Bunch was critically hurt, his wife Regina Bunch talked to the media for the first time tonight about what she's gone through.
The Republican Party of Kentucky nominated Regina Bunch to replace her husband in the 82nd legislative district.
The meeting took place in order to find a Republican nominee who could run in the general election which will take place on December 20. Unless there is a write in on the ballot, Bunch will take over for her husband.
“That has happened in the last election in Whitley County, there were nine write ins for jailer, so it can happen but i don't think she will have any problem at all,” said Nancy Jones Whitley County Republican Chairwoman.
Some believe there is no better person for the job.
“She has been Dewayne's partner for over thirty years and she knew what he was working on,” said Debbie Harville, Laurel Co. Republican Chairwoman.
“She expressed to me she did most of his correspondence and helping him when he was serving so I think she is more than capable of serving us and doing a good job.”
“I think I it is wonderful and I think everybody feels the same way,” said Jones.
Bunch said she wants to see his vision come true.
“I think he will be somewhat surprised, I have never expressed an interest in politics however he was thrilled to be elected and he had such a passion for it that I just couldn't not step up and finish his agenda and the changes that he hoped to make in the commonwealth,” said Regina Bunch.
“I would just like to thank the people of the Commonwealth,” said Bunch.
“I have been so humbled by the cards and letters and things everything that we have received. I just ask that everyone continues to keep him in your prayers as he continues his recovery.”
Bunch said she could not believe how many people sent their thoughts and prayers to the family in this trying time.
