FLAT LICK, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials in Knox County have issued a Golden Alert for a man missing since Friday morning.

Authorities do not know why 49-year-old Curtis Gambrel went missing from his home in the Flat Lick community of Knox County Friday. They say Gambrel's mental condition, combined with cold weather, add up to a potentially dangerous situation.

Search teams worked past midnight Friday and all day Saturday, looking for 49-year-old Curtis Gambrel.

"we've ... covering the whole community," said emergency management director Mike Mitchell. "We've got a ground search going on with approximately 25 personnel."

Gambrel's parents say the last time they saw him friday morning around 8:30 a.m. at his home in Flat Lick in Knox County. They say they went to Corbin for a few hours and when they got back Gambrel was gone.

"We thought he was asleep you know," said R.P. Gambrel, the man's father. "Well he not showing, no show, and then we check again it's getting about 4:30 we started getting worried about him."

His parents say Gambrel suffers from mental health issues, which makes them that much more worried.

"He hears voices in his head. Sees things and thinks they're there when they're not," says Gambrel's mother Susan.

A helicopter aided those on the ground in the search, but as of Saturday afternoon, teams still had not found the missing man. Gambrel's parents say they just want him to come home.

"He was raised here," said R.P. Gambrel. "He been here for 45 years, and I mean we missing him already. We hope he shows up alive, but we don't know."

Officials say the search will continue until Gambrel is found. They have not released a picture of Gambrel. He is described as a white man, 5' 9", 170 pounds, with a medium build, blue eyes, a bald head and no facial hair. Anyone with information is asked to call the Knox County Dispatch Center at 606-546-3510.
