Results released on new study on UPIKE possibly going public

A study says making UPIKE a public university would have minimal impact in Eastern Kentucky.

However, officials with the National Center for High Education Management Systems agreed with the current legislative plan to use coal severance dollars to give scholarships to upper-level students to help them complete their degrees.

The two main supporters of the UPIKE bill, House Speaker Greg Stumbo and UPIKE President Paul Patton, are supporting the compromise.
