KRYPTON, Ky. (WYMT) - United States Post Service officials said there are sixteen of them statewide. On Friday they opened their first Village Post Office in Perry County.

A ribbon cutting was held at the Krypton Post Office to celebrate Eversole's Grocery partnering with USPS to bring extended hours to the office. Officials said hours will be cut to four a day at the beginning of next year.

"The Village Post Office is going to actually accommodate and kick in and give the customers of Krypton an opportunity to access stamps and mail a package as well as patronize Delbert's store here, Eversole grocery," said Nick Walker, Village Post Office Coordinator for Kentuckiana.

Walker said he believed it was a mutually beneficial relationship.

The office will only be able to mail out flat rate boxed packages, but officials said it keeps many offices from having to shut down.
