River clean up in McCarr interrupted by rain

MCCARR, Ky (WYMT) - The rain cut clean up efforts short on the Tug Fork River Thursday in Pike County.

Pike County officials and The Big Sandy River Basin Coalition organized a campaign to help with the river's clean up.

They say it is a tri-state effort with Virginia and West Virginia to keep the Hatfield McCoy Park in McCarr clean.

"Our project today (Thursday) was to use boats on the Tug Fork River here cleaning right in the historical Hatfield McCoy area to start the process of removing trash out of the river for purposes of our residents and to encourage tourism including the Hatfield McCoy outdoor drama which will be held at this site." said Big Sandy River Basin Coalition President Charles Carlton.

They hope to continue the event next year and have better weather.
