PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - UPDATE
A Pike County man is jail after police say he robbed a Pikeville convenience story Saturday evening. Police say surveilance video is what helped them make the arrest.
Around 6:30 p.m. Saturday Pikeville Police say they received a call about a robbery at the Marathon Double Kwik on South Mayo Trail.
Lt. Aaron Thompson says, "One of the cashiers said a man came in asking for change. When the cashier opened the drawer to make change he grabbed her with one arm and reached in with the other to grab bills and then ran out of the store."
The store's surveillance cameras caught the robbery and police then reviewed the images.
Thompson says, "Video surveilance was key, he was trying to conceal himself with a big coat, hood and hat but the camera got a good look at his face and we were able to indentify him."
Police identified 36-year-old, Gary Lowe, as the man they say held the cashier, stole the cash, and then left the scene on foot.
Officers say they seached various locations before locating Lowe at the Riverside Inn...just down the road from the gas station officers say he robbed hours earlier.
Savannah Varney is a customer at the Double Kwik and says, "Really relieves me that they caught him because he could just go out and do this again."
Lowe was arrested and charged with second degree robbery. He is being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
They say he entered an Eastern Kentucky store wearing camouflage and asked for change. Now one Pike County man is behind bars.
