Rockslide causes crashes on I-75

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- I-75 in southern Kentucky was closed for hours after officials say a rock slide caused accidents in the area.

We're told the rock embankment at the 23 mile marker in Whitley County gave way around 8 o'clock Sunday night, causing a rock slide, that closed both lanes of I-75 northbound.

Two accidents resulted in the slide.

The Whitley County Sheriff's Office says the first crash caused a car to overturn, causing minor injuries to a North Carolina man, Alpha Arnett, 51.

The other accident involved in Tommy Justin, 47, of Barbourville, and his passenger, Kimberly Justin, age 45, also of Barbourville.

We're told their vehicle hit the rocks in the roadway and the passenger, Kimberly Justin, was transported to Baptist Regional Medical Center by ambulance with moderate injuries.

The interstate has since reopened.
