Rockslide delays drivers in Floyd County

Updated: Wed 8:53 PM, Jan 30, 2013

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A rockslide delayed folks traveling just outside of Prestonsburg Wednesday morning. Officials say one lane of Kentucky 114 in Floyd County was blocked by the slide.

Crews had to close off all traffic while they cleared the roadway...leaving traffic at a standstill and drivers trying to figure out what happened.

Driver Doug Kretzer says, "The rocks, where they have been frozen and thawed, frozen and thawed, now got water behind them and that has pushed them off the hill out to the road. If anybody else is going down, they better leave a little early because it could be this way quite a bit."

Officials say they do believe the weather played a role in the slide. They also say to be cautious since Wednesday's weather will likely cause other slides.
