HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Spring cleaning may be a chore for some, and the products you use can even be hazardous to your health. But a local cleaning company is looking to change that.

Every Sunday afternoon the First Federal Bank in Hazard is wiped, vacuumed, and scrubbed.

But this father and son sanitation team says the way they clean does more than just sanitize.

“It makes other peoples work easier because we're using green products, and we're helping to keep the place and the environment the building clean,” said Eric Thompson.

Terry Thompson is the owner of the Green certified sanitation company Techniclean.

He says “green cleaning is just a safe way of doing things, and I've used products in the past that i know are not safe to use. I mean it can damage important parts of your body."

He knows that damage first hand, saying, “I've gone to work and come home the next morning and you know it’s in your lungs and in your sinus passages.”

So instead they use everyday products like vinegar, and alcohol, along with a few natural ingredients.

“The carpet is cleaned with a grapefruit seed extract. The tile is cleaned with a product that's made from sassafras,” said Terry.

They say green cleaning is not a new movement, but one that Eastern Kentucky desperately needs.

Many states including Kentucky recommend that their schools and government buildings are cleaned green.
