Updated: Fri 6:50 PM, Jan 11, 2013

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - So far this week we have introduced you to two of the Ralph Gabbard Memorial Scholarship winners.

The scholarships are awarded to a few students in Eastern Kentucky every year.

Friday we met the third winner. Her name is Sarah Dawahare, but most people know her as Frankie.

"We have home videos when I was maybe eight months old, and they always called me Frankie," she said.

This year she was awarded one of the Ralph Gabbard Memorial Scholarships, given to students interesting in broadcasting careers. She says a career in broadcasting was not always on her radar, but a passion for theater led her to pursue it.

"I've always had a dream I guess about performing, and I guess to me this is kind of a performance you know when you're in front of the cameras," she said.

Dawahare says she is gaining valuable experience through her high school's news program the Panther Power Hour.

She is not sure where she will attend college, but she is hoping to go to either DePaul University in Chicago or Belmont University in Nashville.

She says winning the scholarship is still unbelievable.

"Thank you thank you thank you! This is awesome because there's a lot of people applying for this I know, and I just can't believe that I was chosen," she said.

Dawahare says it will put her one step closer to achieving her goals.

"It gives me a really good boost of confidence kind of because this is a very high honor for me," she said.

She hopes it will help her on her journey to being a broadcaster.
