School district making up snow days by adding time to each day

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) - An eastern Kentucky school district is extending school days by an hour to make up for class time lost to the weather.

The Harlan Independent School District has four days missed from the calendar through December. The Harlan Daily Enterprise reports that, with three months of winter still to come, the city school board decided on Thursday to adopt the same makeup policy used last year.

Superintendent David Johnson also reminded the board they had approved a policy last May to consider taking spring break days if the calendar extended past June 3 due to weather.

Eight more missed school days would put the district at that limit.
