Budget cuts have affected school districts across the state and Corbin Independent School Officials were forced to make tough decisions due to a $300,000 deficit.
After state and federal cuts left the district in the red, board officials had to approve cutting several teachers and still may have to cut days and salaries of assistant principals and coaches.
This upset more than just the teachers.
Freshman Natasha Duggerd came to a school board meeting to present more than 250 signatures of high school students asking that her teacher Shuree Clouse be re-hired.
"She really inspired me," said Duggerd.
"I was not doing too well until I was moved to her class and she helped me understand and I want other students to have the opportunity to have her as a teacher."
Clouse is one of 18 teachers who were given non-rehire slips.
Board members say it's not easy making decisions on who may not come back next year.
That was not the only tough decision on the agenda.
It was recommended 20 assistant coaches and principals should have their salaries cut, but the board agreed that decision would have to wait.
Board officials across the state are making the same tough decisions, as all budgets must be passed by the end of this month.
