People all across Kentucky were on their feet and breaking a sweat this weekend . The third annual Second Sunday event took place at various counties in the state to promote one thing, physical fitness.

Crowds of people came out to pikeville city park to dance, play, sing, walk, enjoy healthy snacks and simply get on their feet; all as a part of the statewide second sunday initiative to make communities healthier and more active.

"We have a health crisis in the state and the only way to overcome that is physical activity and lifestyle changes," said Cristy Honaker, the coordinator for Pike County's event.

"Children now a days are prone to be couch potatoes. They like computers and they don't get enough physical activity," said Carolyn Cox, a participant in the event.

This event was a way to show families, especially kids, that physical activity is important and it can be fun.

"I tried to bring my girls out to show them that there's all kinds of different ways you can be active and it's very important to live a healthy lifestyle and see the different ways you can do so," said Stacy Fouch, a Zumba instructor.

"I'm glad to see such a strong push and initiative toward making sure our young people know that's important," said Jim Workman, a Second Sunday participant.

Most kids got the message.

"It's really important to stay healthy especially when you're younger that way you can carry that through when you're an adult," said Paige Workman, a performer at the event.

Second Sunday is a step in the right direction for communities to be healthier and more active. It is put on by a group from the university of kentucky.
