Senate approves huge 2013 spending bill

WASHINGTON (AP) -Federal meat inspectors would be spared furloughs, but more than 100 smaller air traffic facilities throughout the country could still be closed.

The Senate has approved legislation that would take the edge off the across-the-board spending cuts that took effect March 1 and avoid a government shutdown just a week away.

The House could approve the measure as early as today.
