Senate panel advances "pill mill" bill

The "pill mill" bill..already passed the full House….and now it’s in the Senate.

Key to the bill is more regulation of pain management clinics. The bill moves the monitoring program…called KASPER…from the Health Cabinet…to the Attorney General. Yet the Senate version includes what the sponsor calls a gatekeeper provision.

“They’re not going to share that information with everyone inside the AG’s office,” Senator Jensen told reporters after the Judiciary Committee passed the measure 7-2.

Senator Jensen says there are enough changes in the bill to warrant a compromise conference committee.

“But I still think we have time to do this. We have the rest of the week to get it done,” said Jensen.

The Kentucky Medical Association has concerns of KASPER being regulated by the Attorney General. Jensen says his version addresses those issues.

“We don’t want them to feel that they’re under investigation all the time..and someone is watching them,” said Jensen.

The bill now goes to the full Senate.
