Senate passes state budget; House ready to follow

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Senate has passed a two-year, $19
billion state budget that will require sharp cuts to most
government agencies and programs.

The spending plan passed 36-1 on Friday afternoon. It now goes
to the House for consideration.

The measure calls for 8.4 percent cuts to most government
agencies and programs because of lingering financial woes brought
on the recession that hit Kentucky in 2008.

Lawmakers still haven't worked out differences in $3.5 million
worth of road construction projects on the drawing board for the
next two years.

The budget is House Bill 265.
