Senator Rand Paul visits EKY

Several national and state issues have formed since new bills have been proposed in both the senate and house.

From anti-piracy legislation to redistricting, a lot of changes could be on the horizon for Americans and specifically Kentuckians.

Senator Rand Paul was well received in London with his views of what is going on in Washington.

"We're borrowing 40,000 dollars a second. Two million dollars is borrowed every minute. We'll borrow 70 or 80 million dollars over the next 30 to 40 minutes," said Senator Paul.

Senator Paul says America's debt is literally out of control.

Yet, people in Kentucky want gambling to be expanded.

"A lot of people proposed that we put it on the ballot. And I'm not sure exactly what the best answer is," said Senator Paul.

Another complicated subject is the new redistricting plan across the state, which Senator Paul says is only confusing for voters and politicians.

"If they've carved your district up to where you've got to drive 30 miles to campaign and to meet people who are no longer your neighbors, that isn't good," said Senator Paul.

According to Senator Paul, neither is an anti-piracy legislation.

He says PIPA, Protect Intellectual Property Act and SOPA, Stop Online Piracy Act, will give the federal government too much power to censor the Internet.

"I don't think we should turn off someone's website without having their day in court. You should be allowed to defend yourself before someone is automatically allowed to shut down you website," said Senator Paul.

But another argument has Senator Paul considering both sides, which is Senate Bill 50.

"It costs you more money to go to the doctor first to get a prescription so there will be an expense. On the other side of the coin, people say maybe it would cut down on meth labs," said Senator Paul.

Senator Paul says people are looking to save money wherever they can since the value of our dollar continues to shrink.

During Senator Paul's visit to Eastern Kentucky, he performed five charitable cataract surgeries in Corbin.
