Seniors rally in Capitol to end waiting lists

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Senior citizens are calling for additional
state funding for programs that serve the elderly.
Hundreds of seniors rallied in the Capitol on Thursday in hopes
of convincing lawmakers to appropriate more money to the Department
of Aging and Independent Living in order to get thousands of people
off of waiting lists for a variety of services.
The rally is one of the first leading up to the next legislative
session, which begins in January.
Economic woes have reduced tax revenues to the state's general
fund by $1 billion in recent years and have forced sharp cuts to
most government programs and services.
Participants in Thursday's rally called for sufficient funding
for meals, in-home care, transportation, adult day care and other
senior services.
