Seven arrested on drug charges after "Operation Broken Heart" in Johnson County

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Months of undercover work allowed the Johnson County Sheriff's Office to obtain warrants for a dozen people, totaling 26 drug trafficking charges...ranging from marijuana, to oxycodone, and meth.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office continued their efforts against drugs on Thursday morning as they went after 12 people facing drug charges.

Sheriff Dwayne Price says, "We are calling it 'Operation Broken Heart'...because of Valentine's Day. A little surprise for 12 people who decided they would sell drugs in our county."

Arresting those who officials say are negatively impacting their community not just by bringing drugs around but the host of other problems they bring.

"They are going to do anything they can to get their hands on drugs," explains Sheriff Price. He adds, "If they don't have the money, they are going to steal from their neighbors...from the good people."

It is a problem deputies say they are determined to change for the better.

Chief Deputy Kevin Pelphrey says, "We all have kids, some of us have them here in the schools and a lot have older kids who are active and out in the community...and you just don't want this in your county."

"We don't care who you are, what side of the fence you're on...if you're dealing drugs in Johnson County...as long as we are here, we are going to put the heat on you," says Sheriff Price.

Deputies say it is the desire for a better county and the gratitude shown when these arrests are made, that encourage them to keeping fighting the war on drugs.

Pelphrey says, "It is just something we feel we have to do."

Deputies arrested the following seven people on Thursday morning:
Ashley Ralph
David Blevins
Kendra Wells
Justin Fields
Brett Boyd
Genia D. McCarty
Joshua Johnson
