The flood waters are beginning to slowly recede across most of Eastern Kentucky and the snow showers are coming to an end. Roads will remain slick tonight as temperatures drop below zero. 14 Kentucky airports, several of them right here in the mountains, will get grant funding for new automated weather stations.
Governor Beshear announced the funding on Thursday.
The stations, called automated weather observation systems, or AWOS for short, transmit weather information to planes up to ten thousand feet in the air and within 25 miles of the airport.
In Eastern Kentucky, airports in Hazard, Prestonsburg, Middlesboro and Morehead will get the funding to buy the needed equipment.
