The rain will transition over to snow as we head into mid to late morning across the area. We will see the chances for light accumulation in the valley areas with 1-3" possible on the ridge tops above 2000 feet. Slick spots are possible on untreated roads. While significant snow is not expected, we have issued a Severe Weather Alert Day to keep you informed on possible negative impacts to travel through Tuesday afternoon.
14 Kentucky airports, several of them right here in the mountains, will get grant funding for new automated weather stations.
Governor Beshear announced the funding on Thursday.
The stations, called automated weather observation systems, or AWOS for short, transmit weather information to planes up to ten thousand feet in the air and within 25 miles of the airport.
In Eastern Kentucky, airports in Hazard, Prestonsburg, Middlesboro and Morehead will get the funding to buy the needed equipment.
