Another band of snow will move into the region tonight. That plus temperatures into the lower 20s will create slick spots across the mountains. Additional accumulation of up to a half inch is possible in the valleys, while up to an additional inch is possible on the ridges. While significant snow is not expected, we have issued a Severe Weather Alert Day to keep you informed on possible negative impacts to travel through Tuesday afternoon.
An investigation is underway after a deadly explosion at a house in Powell County.
It happened around 11 Thursday morning at a home on Paint Creek Road, near Stanton.
Investigators say one person was killed in the explosion.
Two others were injured and airlifted to UK Hospital to be treated. They are now listed in critical condition.
The names of the victims have not been released.
Fire departments from five counties responded to the scene. Firefighters spent hours putting out the fire that broke out during the explosion.
The explosion could be heard for miles away.
"I was in my house all I heard was a boom and I woke up, and I was like what in the world because I thought it was the gas plant," Bridgette Barnett, who lives nearby, said.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but neighbors think a propane tank likely played a role.
