Several groups file lawsuit against Southwest Virginia coal company

A Virginia based coal company is headed to court over environmental issues.

The Bristol Herald Courier reports in a lawsuit filed Thursday, Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards, the Sierra Club and Appalachian Voices accuses A&G Coal of polluting stream water in Wise County.

The lawsuit alleges the mine has violated the clean water act and the surface mining control and reclamation act.

A&G officials have previously spent time in court with environmentalists against their proposed mining of Ison Rock Ridge.
