The Whitley County Sheriff is no longer behind bars.
Sheriff Lawrence Hodge was released on a 150-thousand dollar property bond.
The sheriff is facing a 21 count indictment.
The charges range from abuse of public trust to tampering with evidence
Colan Harrell, the sheriff-elect says he will have to build a brand new sheriff's department.
While he does not have the title yet, Harrell is already working on the project of taking over the sheriff's department.
"There's a lot of organization that needs to be done. The Whitley County Sheriff's office suffers from years of neglect," said Harrell.
Alleged neglect that lead to a sheriff while in uniform to be in handcuffs.
A special grand jury heard from nearly 30 witnesses and took several months to work on the report.
Even with the indictment, Hodge still has the title as sheriff but will go through the legal process just like anyone else with charges.
Hodge is scheduled to be back in court on December 13 for his arraignment.
