Victim's basketball coach releases statement

HAZARD, Ky (WYMT-TV) --- Police have confirmed that Taylor Cornett, a victim of a shooting at Hazard Community and Technical College, died at UK Hospital at 3:47PM.

Taylor played basketball for R.W. Combs Elementary in Perry County and also practiced with the Perry County Central High School.

Perry Central Girls Basketball Coach Randy Napier has released the following statement.

"Our school and our community are all heartbroken over the loss of Taylor Cornett. Taylor will always be remembered as a part of the Lady Commodore family. I feel honored to have been one of her coaches if only for a short time. She was a very talented child with a very bright future in basketball. To have her life cut short at such a young age and in such a senseless manner is difficult for all of us to handle. My team and coaches along with her grade school team, the RW Combs Lady Mustangs and Coach Larry Caudill are all devastated by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Taylors family. Please pray for us all"

A prayer service will be held in honor of the victims, first responders and everyone affected by the shooting at Petrey Memorial Baptist at 7:00 PM Wednesday.
