Police: Homeowner shoots intruder

Police say Jessie Roberts and Katrina Price went to a house on Dorman Creek Road near the Rockcastle/Pulaski Co. Line, but when Roberts allegedly tried to break in, police say the homeowner shot him. Roberts managed to get away on foot, but not for long.

“The intruder was apprehended a short distance away in a woodline by state police and the people looking for him,” said Ky. State Police Sgt. Thomas Atkin.

Roberts was taken by helicopter to UK Hospital for a wound to the shoulder. He was treated and is now in jail, charged with burglary. Price was also charged with burglary. Police questioned the homeowner who shot the intruder, whose actions as of now appear to be justified.

“But our interpretation for the laws of self defense...in this case..his actions did not merit charges,” said Atkin.

Police say the crime could be related to a number of recent burglaries in the area, which could also be tied to the local prescription drug problem.

Roberts was expected to be released from UK Hospital Wednesday night.
