BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Troopers from the Kentucky State Police Post in Harlan took students on a shopping spree in Barbourville during the annual "Shop with a Trooper" event.

Christmas came early for sixty-five children. The children got to spend $120 at Wal-mart.

"Obviously it's Christmastime, a reason for giving, so this is a way State Police can give back to our community and help these kids out and put a smile on their face," said Trooper Shane Jacobs.

Once shopping was over, Forcht Bank in Barbourville provided the children lunch and another surprise! Santa Claus came to visit! The children got to wish for more toys and Santa also handed out gifts.

"Oh, it's just a great feeling being able to see these kids, see their face light up, and it's also just a great feeling as a state trooper being able to help out our community, help these little kids out who may not have gotten anything for Christmas," said Trooper Jacobs.

Troopers collected donations all year from people and businesses to pay for the shopping spree.

Other "Shop with a Trooper" events are being held across Kentucky.
