'Shop local' encouraged across Kentucky

In addition to the shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, there is also a push to shop local this Saturday.

For the second year in a row American Express has a national campaign to push holidays shoppers to buy local in their communities. Kentucky also has a similar program called Shop Downtown.

Business owners in Frankfort say it's a win-win for everyone.

"Those dollars that people spend locally help support jobs, diversity, choice, and they result in better, stronger communities," said a small business owner.

71 communities including Lexington will take part in the shop local program. The Kentucky Main Street program says holiday sales represent 75% of their total annual sales.
