Kids poured into the Wal-Mart in Manchester, eagerly eyeing toys and games, and anxiously awaiting their chance to fill up their cart.
Shop with a Sheriff allows less fourtunate kids to buy $100 worth of Christmas Presents for themselves.
“My favorite part is just seeing a smile on a kids face who is not gonna get anything for christmas, this is making their christmas” Said Chris Fultz Police Chief at Manchester Police Department.
The event also gave kids the rare chance to bond with officers on a personal level.
Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson added “People can see Sheriffs Deputies and Police Officers in another light and see that we do care.”
This was especially the case for one little boy.
“My youngest in particular was afraid of the police, and he came out here and he was doing the hand bump and he's just so comfortable now so thats a good thing.” Said a mom of two boys who shopped with the Sheriff
Officers shared the kids excitement as they helped them browse the aisles and pick out toys. It certainly seems like this time of year....the little kid comes out in all of us.Officials said this event pointed out how much better it is than to receive.
