Police say it is that time of the year when they see a spike in crime.

Officials say you need to be extra careful while shopping during the holiday season.

Mall workers are pleased to see more people hit the stores this season, but want folks to always be aware of their surroundings.

"Use common sense when you shop anywhere. Do not leave your packages in front seats. Don't leave your purse in plain view," said Charles Burchfield with the Middlesboro Mall.

Rules that go right on the shopping list.

Middlesboro Mall workers say so far they have not had any problems with theft and they want to keep it that way.
