FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones is featured on the 2013 Governor's Commemorative Derby poster unveiled Monday by Gov. Steve Beshear.
Smarty Jones won the Derby in 2004.
The poster features a photograph by John Stephen Hockensmith showing the thoroughbred racing toward the finish line.
Beshear said the poster exemplifies the excitement and enthusiasm that surrounds the greatest two minutes in sports.
Smarty Jones became one of America's most beloved racehorses. His popularity was credited for increased race attendance and high television ratings.
Proceeds from poster sales will benefit first lady Jane Beshear's Horses and Hope Program, which provides breast cancer screening and treatment for uninsured and underinsured horse industry workers, and the Equine Health and Welfare Alliance Inc., which promotes the health and safety of horses.
