PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - The stock room at shoe sensation in Prestonsburg is overflowing with boxes full of shoes, but these shoes will not be going out on the shelves.

Shoe Sensation manager Kim Adams explains what exactly the boxes are for, "On December 4th we started a program with Shoe Sensation called Soles for Souls. This benefits men, women, and children throughout the world to help them get shoes."

Thanks to a local church the biggest donation came on Monday, the last day for collection. "This was a combination of the shoes we've been collecting since September with our children's musical called the Christmas Shoe Tree, we collected about 620 pairs of shoes," explains Dianne White of Little Paint Church of God.

People all over the United States participated in this program by dropping off gently worn shoes. Nationally they have already counted more than 10,000 pairs of shoes and Prestonsburg has a lot to do with that.

Adams says she is, "thankful for people of prestonsburg who donated these shoes. It's is a blessing to people in the world that we have these people."

White says this was a great opportunity for the church to reach out, "we want to share the love of Christ with others if it is through giving people a pair of shoes and we can share God's love by doing that."

The shoes will be distributed all over the world this holiday season. White says it is important to give back this time of year, "knowing that the hope and the joy that Christ gave when He came as a baby...we want to share that love of Christ especially now but also all year long."

The shoes will go to Shoe Sensation headquarters and then Soles for Souls will distribute them from there.
