A man was shot and killed by his mother inside a Clay County home Tuesday night.
Kentucky State Police say 46-year-old Ernie Ferguson forced his way into the home of his mother and stepfather and then assaulted his stepfather.
Police say when Ferguson made his way towards his mother, she shot him.
Ferguson was flown to a hospital in Tennessee where he was pronounced dead just before midnight.
No charges have been filed.
Clay County Detention Center officials say Ferguson had been released from jail earlier in the day.
