Police seek answers after father, children disappear

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - Michael Mann's family says his kids are his top priority.

"He's the best guy. He's the best kid in the world," said Michael Mann's father, Barry Mann.

Tonight, he along with 5-year-old Macy and 3-year-old Madden are missing. His father is hoping for their safe return.

"I sure do. That's my boy and my grandbabies," said Barry Mann.

Mann's family says he suffers from bipolar disorder and when he feels an episode coming on, he takes the kids to family so he can get help. His mother said he told family he was taking the kids to her house in Versailles around 10:30 last night, but he never showed up. Police found his minivan abandoned along I75 in Laurel County early this morning. There was no trace of Mann and his children.

"The kids is his life when he's in his right mind, but he's sick," said Barry Mann.

Michael Mann's father says a divorce has left him troubled.

"Divorce wiped him out. As long as he had a family, he was on top of the world. I don't think he would hurt the kids, but I better watch what I say since there's an investigation going on," said Barry Mann.

Police searched the area where they found the van with dogs, but said there weren't any signs they'd gone into the woods. They got a tip from someone who said they saw a man and two children walking along the interstate this evening, but police say they couldn't find anyone. The family says Michael Mann doesn't have any connections in the Laurel County area.
