Southern Kentucky county puts new emergency alert system in place

SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) - A new emergency notification system is up and running in Pulaski County as spring begins - and when severe weather is most likely to hit.

All it needs now are the phone numbers of residents and business owners who want to be notified in the event of an emergency.

Pulaski County Judge-Executive Barty Bullock the Commonwealth Journal ( ) that the new system is more efficient and more accurate than the old system.

County officials purchased the Code Red Emergency System in February. Residents who opt in can receive alerts on severe weather in addition to water main breaks, hazmat situations and missing children.
