State health officials teach proper treatment for HIV/AIDS

About 5,000 Kentuckians are living with HIV.

State health officials talked Tuesday about how to fight the virus at the 2012 Kentucky Conference on HIV/AIDS.

This year’s theme is “Turn the Tide” through education. They want people that are high risk to get the proper treatment so they can reduce the number of people contracting the virus.

“Turning the Tide really reflects that with this epidemic we’ve come so far since the early 80’s when the virus was discovered we’ve come so far and we have an arsenal of tools that could really help us and this epidemic,” HIV/AIDS Program Director, Sigga Jagne said.

The conference is open for anyone interested in attending and runs until Wednesday.
