LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - State officials in Kentucky have revoked the licenses of 18 child care centers in Louisville after a yearlong investigation.

Media reported the Cabinet for Health and Family Services cited allegations of fraud in letters on Wednesday ordering the centers to close.

Cabinet officials declined to discuss the investigation, but released letters sent to the centers after The Courier-Journal filed an open records request.

The letters stated that the 18 centers "failed to assure that each mandatory record ... has not been altered or falsified."

The cabinet declined to elaborate beyond what the letters stated. It was unclear how many children would be affected.

The centers have 20 days to appeal. If no appeal is filed, the revocations become final.
