FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A draft of the state's new plan regarding runoff water pollution is available to the public, and public comments are being taken through the end of the month.
The Energy and Environment Cabinet says the Division of Water's 2012 Kentucky Nonpoint Source Management Plan can be accessed at http://water.ky.gov/Pages/PublicNotices.aspx through May 31. Public comment may be submitted through that date either by email to james.roe(at)ky.gov or by regular mail to the Kentucky Division of Water, Attention of Nonpoint Source Program, 200 Fair Oaks Lane, Fourth Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601.
The agency says runoff pollution is the leading contributor to water pollution in Kentucky and happens when water runs across land and carries sediment, nutrients, pesticides, heavy metals and waste from animals and humans into streams, rivers and groundwater.
