PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Another robbery in Pike County, but this time the store owner said he fought back.
It happened Monday night at the Meta Mart in the Johns Creek community.
The store owner said he wanted to take control of the situation and fired four shots at the two robbers.
It was all caught on tape.
Garry Thornsberry said he has been preparing himself for that moment.
"I've gone over it in my mind, and I've decided that I want the ball in my court," he said.
As the number of robberies grows, he said he knew it would not be long before his store was the next target.
Monday night, he was right, as two men entered the Meta Mart, at least one of them with a gun.
Thornsberry said he was in the office when he heard the clerk call his name. He looked up at the surveillance monitor and knew it was happening.
"I had my gun handy, and I went out the door," he said.
He fired four times.
"He started to lift his gun up, and when he did I fired at him. I didn't know if the other fellow had a gun or not, and I put off a couple more shots," he said.
He said it all happened so fast he was not sure if his bullets even hit the robber, but it appeared to hit his arm or side.
"You have to prepare. It's too late when it happens to start thinking 'what am I going to do,'" he said
Thornsberry said within 15 seconds it was over.
"Until we can get some of these people off the streets we're going to have to live in fear of going to work," he said.
Now all he can do is hope they are caught.
The robbers left the store empty-handed.
