The aftermath of Sunday's winter storm left behind a mess in some parts of Eastern Kentucky.

Road crews in Leslie County have worked through the night clearing roads to insure everyone's safety.

By the looks of the roads today, you would not know unless you saw it that many of those roadways were not drivable last night.

Today, only secondary roads are a bit slick and tricky for drivers.

Slush, ice, and fallen trees are what the storm left behind on most roadways.

Road crews even dare to say the day after a storm like this one is the most challenging.

"The hardest part is staying up all night and being able to continue the next day throughout the day," said Kendall Hollen, a salt truck driver in Leslie County.

They will work until their job is done clearing roads of anything in their path.

"Just take it one day at a time. We've got two crews running and just doing one road at a time until we get them done," said Michael Caudill, who works at the Kentucky Department of Highways.

Truck drivers say they would not still be running over roads if the storm had not hit without much warning.

"It all come in such a hurry that we couldn't get it all cleaned up as fast as we needed to, but all through the night, we all managed to get it done," said Hollen.

Long hours during a cold night is providing people with peace of mind in the aftermath of a storm that we did not expect to live up to its potential.

Although the roads are clear for the most part, road officials are still advising people to stay off secondary and side roads.

As for tonight, slush and melting snow have the potential to ice over when the temperatures drop below freezing.
